Baileux

Description

North-east Baileux, which corresponds to the current hamlet of Boutonville, was once a village and a seigneury with its own mayor and deputy burgomasters. It followed the law of Prisches (farming of the land by free tenant farmers). It was an ample ample fiefdom belonging to the principality of Chimay, held in 1850 by Jean du Joncquoy, a counsellor in ordinary of the Prince. Boutonville has some lovely farms that have been there a long time, most since the 18th century,

as well as 2 water mills, which were once forges. Feel free to stroll around the village's little side streets to discover the traces of the past. The current pumping station is on the site of the former washhouse. The Pays de Chimay is steeped in ancient history and thoroughly deserves its reputation in this field.
