The resurgence point of the Eau Noire (Black Water), with part of its course rushing into the Grottes de Neptune (Neptune Caves), formerly known as the "l'adugeoir" caves. The Celts had named this place NEM, later Latinised in the form of NEMAUS. The word meant sky, sacred or sacred place, because of this resurgence, which they took to be a spring blessed by the gods, with its pure water that never froze nor dried up. For a long time, this resurgence formed the centre of the village, with the bailiffs' house, ruins of the old fortified church, presbytery, etc.
