After about half a mile, you’ll discover the re-emergence of the river. Nearby the re-emergence, the archaeological remains of a 2nd century AD Roman camp were uncovered. The Romans used this vantage point as a defensive promontory (oppidum) against the Germanic tribes whose attacks were each time more efficient.
