The granite slab in which the Blue Helmet is inserted was erected in honor of the Rochefort-born lieutenant Thierry Lotin and nine other Para Troopers who were assassinated in Kigali (Ruwanda) on 07 April 1994, while taking part in a humanitarian mission. On its right, an abstract sculpture in granite, by Louis Noël a sculptor from Jemelle, that represents freedom.
