Take a couple of minutes to admire the pretty little chapel called Our Lady of Walcourt. This charming little chapel, remote from the village, dates from 1820. The village, on the other hand, dates from Merovingian era. In days gone by, Lavaux-Sainte-Anne belonged to the principality of Liège. The villagers are known by the nickname Petias, which means ‘little wild pears’.
It is said that during the Second World War, hundreds of crates containing paintings belonging to the Bruges Museum, as well as books from the Plantin Museum in Antwerp, were secretly stored in the castle cellar. This explains why the local policemen kept the castle under very close, yet discreet, surveillance….
