What is roadbook navigation?

SityTrail+ supports a new roadbook guidance mode ("turn by turn") that is much more effective, providing navigation instructions in an improved manner and only when necessary (during a change of direction).

It also allows for more detailed text or voice instructions indicating the names of streets, as well as the names of paths and trails when they exist.

This new guidance mode is activated by default.

You can change the guidance mode if you wish as explained here
How to choose a guidance mode?

⚠️
This mode requires opening the hike with a trail projection mode(the one that seems to give the best result on the map preview).

This opening mode optimizes the hiking route based on OpenStreetMap data.

It may happen that the route taken is modified compared to the initial route if it passes through roads and paths not present in the OpenStreetMap database or if it cuts through fields, for example.

If you do not want this, you can choose "None" as the trail projection mode. Navigation will then only take place via the traditional mode (oriented arrow).

⚠️
We had to temporarily introduce some limitations for technical reasons:
  • For the opening of GPX files directly from the mobile app, opening in optimized mode (with trail projection) for road-book navigation is not possible.

⇒ One solution is to delete the hike from your device after importing the GPX file onto your device and sending it to your SityTrail account, then re-download it from your account, and you will then be offered the choice of projection mode.
  • When a hike has been initially downloaded and opened with a certain projection mode (for example, 30 m), when you try to open it again, you will only have the option of this previously chosen projection mode, or no projection at all.

⇒ the solution also involves deleting and re-downloading the hike
  • Similarly, when a hike has been initially downloaded and opened without projection, when you try to open it again, it will not be possible to choose a projection mode

⇒ the solution is also to delete and re-download the hike
