What are the differences between the SityTrail and SityTrail+ applications?

SityTrail

Maps

The SityTrail app downloads maps in image format ("raster").

This allows compatibility with all the maps offered in the Premium subscriptions of SityTrail, including topographic maps from national geographical institutes (IGN France, IGN Belgium, swisstopo, ...).

On the other hand, downloading maps is slower, maps take up more space on your device, and marked route networks (walking networks: GR, European routes, Santiago de Compostela paths, ..., cycling networks: Greenways in France, Ravel in Belgium, European routes, Node-Point networks in the Netherlands and Flanders, ..., ski trails) are only accessible in online mode.

SityTrail+

Maps

ℹ️
Here you will find a demonstration of the maps available in SityTrail+: https://www.sitytrail.com/fr/map/demo/

🚨
SityTrail+ does not provide access to official topographic maps from other national geographic institutes (e.g., IGN Belgium, ...) other than those listed below or to official topographic maps 1/25,000 from IGN France in raster/image format (with tourist information, GR trails, PR trails, Club Vosgien, ...).

The
SityTrail+ app includes a new optimized vector map engine.

This provides the following benefits:

  • Much faster downloading of maps in areas.
  • Maps use much less disk space.
  • The maps are displayed in high definition, regardless of the zoom level.
  • In case of map rotation, the texts remain properly oriented for readability.
  • You can also download marked routes (hiking networks: GR, European routes, Saint James' Way, ..., bike networks: Greenways in France, Ravel in Belgium, European routes, Node Point networks in the Netherlands and Flanders, ..., ski trails) for offline use.

The maps available in this application are those that are available in vector format:

  • SityTrail Topo World: world topographic maps based on OpenStreetMap data with contour lines, relief shading, and highlighting of paths and trails as well as points of interest for hiking.
    You can view them here:
    https://www.sitytrail.com/fr/demo/
  • IGN France vector plan (does not include GR, PR, and Club Vosgien markings)
  • Switzerland (swisstopo)
  • Luxembourg
  • Great Britain (Ordnance Survey)
  • OpenStreetMap maps (non-topographical)

🚨
SityTrail+ does not provide access to the official topographic maps from other national geographic institutes (Belgium IGN, ...) nor to the official topographic maps 1/25,000 from France IGN in raster/image format (including tourist information, GR trails, PR trails, Vosges Club, ...).

Available subscriptions

You will find the detailed comparison of the subscriptions available in the SityTrail and SityTrail+ applications here: What are the differences between the Premium / Premium Plus subscriptions offered?

And the SityTrail World app?

If you still have the SityTrail World app on your device, we recommend updating to SityTrail+ via the Play Store or App Store to benefit from all the improvements available in this application (roadbook navigation, IGN vector map, vector maps of Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Great Britain).

Nevertheless:

  • some older devices do not support the SityTrail+ application
  • on recent Huawei devices that do not have Google services and the Play Store, only the old SityTrail World application is available on Huawei's AppGallery.

In this case, you can continue to temporarily use the old SityTrail World app with OpenStreetMap and SityTrail Topo World maps and marked routes, but we can no longer guarantee its long-term functionality.
