Before we go back to the village, let me tell you something about the villagers.
In times gone by, the villagers were known by the sobriquet ‘cahiet’ (French for ‘object’, ‘thing’) probably because would use the word ‘cahiet’ to refer to almost anything. They were also compared to the ‘leux’ (in French: wolves) because they were rather unsociable and – at least before WWI – well known for their belligerent nature.
