The Charmille was planted in 1885 by Michel Nys, who bought the chateau next door and laid out the grounds. The Charmille is the longest in Europe, measuring 573 metres and featuring 4,500 barrel-vaulted hornbeams. It was listed in 1979 and restored in 1985 by teachers and students from the provincial agricultural school at La Reid. It's impossible not to fall in love with this century-old tree with its many facets: a model of rebirth in spring, a cool tunnel in summer, a path of golden leaves in autumn and a crystal arch under the trees.
