Celles

Description

Celles derives from the Latin cella, cell, and originates from tradition in Saint-Hadelin (617-690), originating from Guyenne (Aquitaine). After a long trip during which he was accompanied for some time by Saint-Remacle, the founder of the abbey of Stavelot, Saint-Hadelin withdrew into the forest in a cave, where a number of companions joined him attracted by his reputation of sanctity and talk of miracles. The cells that the companions of the saint built to live in gave their name to the village.
