The name of Froidfontaine (in walloon ‘Froedfontinne’) has its origin in the Walloon etymology ‘freûde-fontinne’ meaning cold spring. Indeed, we can see an age old fountain, that, following the legend, was used for Druidic rites.
The fountain, that has the aspect of a well, is dominated by the artificial grotto that overlooks the village’s main street.
