How do I import trails in GPX format?

There are several ways to import trails in GPX format into the mobile app:

Import the trails from the website and find them in the mobile app

  1. Import the trails from the website as explained here: How do I import a trail in GPX format?
  2. Download these trails in the mobile app as explained here: How do I access my trails from my account on the server?

Open GPX files directly in the mobile app

You can also open GPX files directly from your smartphone or tablet:

  • from an email
  • from an instant messaging app
  • From a website through the web browser on your device
  • from a file explorer

When you download or open the file, simply choose to open it with the SityTrail app.

The trail will automatically appear on the map.

ℹ️
In this case, the trails opened in GPX format in the mobile app are automatically sent to your SityTrail account with private status as soon as your device has a reliable Internet connection.
⚠️
Some applications and websites do not allow GPX files to be opened directly with an app. In this case, you can use one of the other import methods.

Import a large number of GPX files directly in the mobile app

ℹ️
Trails imported this way are not automatically sent to your SityTrail accountbut you can send them manually later from your list of downloaded/stored trails.

On Android

Copy all the GPX files to be imported into the /Android/data/com.geolives/files/gpx_import folder on your device's internal drive or memory card (or /Android/data/com.geolives.apps.sitytrail.world/files/gpx_import for the SityTrail World app) then restart the SityTrail app.

These files will be automatically imported into your list of downloaded / stored trails.

⚠️
After import, the corresponding GPX files are deleted from this "gpx_import" folder. If you want to keep a copy of the original GPX files, remember to copy them to this "gpx_import" folder instead of moving them there.

On iPhone / iPad

Copy all the GPX files to be imported into the SityTrail documents folder as explained here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT210598 then restart the SityTrail app.

These files will be automatically imported into your list of downloaded / stored trails.

⚠️
After import, the corresponding GPX files are deleted from this documents folder of the SityTrail app. If you want to keep a copy of the original GPX files, remember to copy them to this folder instead of moving them there.
